Author Coltan Bernasol reflects on stories of his family’s impoverished life as peasant farmers in the Philippines and how it relates to his life as an activist and theologian in Chicago today. The recommended scripture to accompany this article is Luke 4:16-21, sometimes called “Jesus’ Mission Statement.”
