Happy New Year!!! Happy 2004! Doesn't that sound weird? I mean I was just getting used to writing 2003 on my checks and correspondence and now we are already into 2004. Yikes!

Time sure flies when you are having fun. And I'm still having fun. I hope you are too. One of the great things about the New Year is it is a time of new beginnings. Nothing has to stay the same. One of the freedoms we enjoy as Americans is the freedom to change. You don't like where you live - move. You don't like your job - get a different one. You don't like who you are - change.

But a lot of us are scared of change. It is tough to move when you've lived in the same place all your life. It is hard to change jobs when it feels like all you have ever known is how to do one thing. It is difficult to change the things we don't like about ourselves because we have become so comfortable with who we are. Change is scary. But change is also exciting.

No longer need we be imprisoned by our past. They say that today is the first day of the rest of our lives. And that is true. You get to choose who you want to be today, tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, and the day after that. Don't let fear keep you down. Bust out and be who YOU want to be.

2004 promises to be a great year for STHPC and for each of us. But not if we are stuck where we are, afraid to go forward because of an unclear future. Let us together venture out and try new things. Let us put aside our fears and go for the gusto! Let us be courageous and bold. Let us not let the world keep us down, but trust our Savior to lead us where we may not have gone before.

Where is that? I don't know right now, but wherever it is, I'm sure it is exciting! And it is a journey I look forward to experiencing. Welcome to 2004, my friends.

Be blessed, and I'll see you on Sunday!

Pastor Tom
