“The Secret”
I am sitting
here dutifully writing this month’s Coop’s
Corner at the last minute as usual.
That means it is the 20th of March (due date for newsletter
articles) and we are in the midst of Holy Week – my busiest time of the
year. Yikes! This is very abnormal – not the waiting to
the last minute, but that it is already Holy Week. Easter was on March 23rd
this year, which makes it the earliest it has been in over 70 years or so and
the earliest it will be for the next 50.
Just my luck! So I need to make
this quick!
Normally I
would be writing about all our fantastic Easter activities - but they are
already over and either you already experienced them or missed them and my
telling you about them would be kind of after the fact.
So … instead
I am going to tell you about an amazing book I read during my study leave. Many of you may have already read it or at
least heard about it. It’s called “The
Secret.” Let me give you my take on it
and then I have to get back to my Holy Week preparations.
It is a very
short book and takes only a couple of hours to read – but it is the kind of
book that can really get you thinking.
The main premise is called the “Law of Attraction.” Basically, we get back what we put out into
the Universe. The book is written in
kind of a “new-age” language – but if you substitute “God” every time it says
“Universe” it makes sense at least 75% of the time. I can work with that kind of percentage!
And the
amazing thing is it works. I think it
was Norman Vincent Peale that wrote “The Power of Positive Thinking.” Folks, it’s true. There is great power in thinking positive,
good, loving thoughts. God wants to
bless us. God wants us to have that
which is good and right for us.
The book talks about living a life
of gratitude and love. When that is what
we put out into the Universe (God), then that is what we will get back. It’s true.
Think about it. When we live a
life of love and gratitude; when we practice positive affirmations; when we
look for ways to appreciate people and to love one another and to be thankful
for whatever we have … when we do those things are lives are then filled with
those things and we are blessed.
I know it sounds trite – but if you
want to be a positive person, if you want to be a loving person, if you want to
be an appreciative person – it all starts by what we put out to others and to
God.
Why do you think that the most
important commandment (according to Jesus) is to LOVE (God, self, and
others)? Because Jesus knows that when
we do that – when we put that out there – it will come back to us.
How do we treat loving, caring,
compassionate, and appreciative people?
Exactly. Live how you want to be
treated. Practice the Golden Rule. Do it and you will thrive.
I am thankful to be a part of a
loving, caring church. That’s why we are
growing…because we are living out what it means to be church – loving one
another and serving God. Don’t stop now!
Have a blessed day, my
friends. And I’ll see you on Sunday!
